Given opportunities for self-assessment, I have always considered myself a "listener" rather than a "talker". So this morning, when I seemed to get to the bottom of my coffee way too fast, I took quick stock of WHAT in this ongoing cycle of day-to-day sameness had changed such that my simple pleasure was sucked down rather than savored.
And it struck me that I was alone.
Big Daddy has been in Taiwan for ten days (comes back tonight!) and we savor our coffee together every morning inbetween dropping the kids off at school and the commencement of craziness that is Running Your Own Business.
My Mom and Dad had come down to visit this week. I don't think they realized what they were in for. While Dad went on a cleaning rampage in the living and dining rooms (my floors have never looked so good!) Mom came with me to the office to "help out". I wish we could hire her! It was the most productive time since Big Daddy's been out of town! But, she was also my fill-in Starbucks partner. It was so nice to gear up for the morning over coffee with my mama, time I don't often get to spend with her.
They have taken a side-trip to San Diego and will be back tomorrow. Then, with Big Daddy home, too, we will all be together and I will have plenty of people to talk with, to and at. That should make my cup o' joe last a little longer than today. Ahhh. Thanks for listening.
Oh, lonely one, my heart is with you! Glad you won't have to savor your cup o'joe alone any longer! Now if I could just figure out what's got my energy in a snag! (All this time, I've been checking out your blog and didn't realize there was a place for comments...guess it's true you learn something new every day...so you know what my golden nugget was today! :) ) Lots of love to all of you!

Not for nothin' but I have offered multiple times to go to coffee with you. Guess I just don't count as much as Mama eh?
*sniff*
It's ok, I still love you even if I'm not good enough for sharing your thoughts with over coffee.

That is true, Alisa, and I guess I'm just not a "somethin' for nothin'" type: You see, I was so happy to have lunch with you when you drove to the OC with me, and the coffee with Mom was a pre-pay for all the work she was gonna do at the office. Next time Big Daddy is on a World Tour, you'll have to come pack orders with me in the mornings. I do love you, though. As long as I can use you...
